How to Wear The Latest Colour Trend: Military Green

The very masculine and versatile shade of military green has made a stylish comeback this season to secure a spot among the top colour trends for men right now. Today we show you five ways to incorporate this seasonally-appropriate colour in your clothes:
Suits
Take a break from the blacks, blues, and greys with this hot men's colour trend of the season. The beauty of the dark green suit is that it works for both dressed-up and dressed-down looks. A two-piece in this colour goes equally well with your regular white shirt-blue tie combo and your more flamboyant reds, maroons and oranges. Whether you're dressing for work or for a wedding, military green lends a sophisticated edge to any look. Since the shade is warm and more appropriate for the cold weather, opt for a heavy fabric like tweed, herringbone, flannel, or wool to bring out the true essence of this rich hue.
Blazers
If you find a whole suit too much to handle, then make a chic addition to your wardrobe with a military green blazer. Wear it with denims, trousers, or chinos, but your autumn-winter collection would be incomplete without a blazer in this elegant shade. When picking blazers in military green, look for textured items like a flecked tailored blazer or a wool and cashmere blazer. This season, rock separates like never before with the leading fall-winter colour trend.
Trousers
Men have been playing it safe with grey, blue, or black trousers for too long. Time for a stylish change in the form of rich green legwear. If you're fond of your classic khaki pair, then this one should appeal to you. Military green trousers are striking and sophisticated, perfect for an understated look. Pair dark green satin chinos with a chambray print shirt for a semi-formal attire, or with tailored shirt and a dark blue jacket for a more formal look. The earthy tones go well together to impart a perfect finish to your ensemble.
Jumpers
Be it turtle-neck, V-neck, or round neck, with the cold season inching closer, it's time for your knitwear to spring into action. And when we're talking knitwear, can the good old jumper be far behind? This menswear classic re-invents itself every year, given its vintage charm and debonair feel. Make a retro, collegiate statement with the shirt under a military green, V-neck pullover, or go for a roll-neck with tailored pants teamed with leather brogues. Heavy fabrics bring out the colour more beautifully, so choose a jumper in a chunky knit to channel the timeless look more effortlessly.
Bomber jackets
Originally created for the US Air Force and popularized by movies like Top Gun, the bomber jacket's timeless appeal makes it an autumn-winter favourite. While there are plenty of dark bomber jackets to be seen, military green makes for a standout colour option. Go for leather inserts and quilted detailing for the extra dash of panache. Team a green bomber jacket with a pair of pleated pants, or a V-neck sweater with a classic white shirt and a tie, or a pair of trousers in a contrast hue for a louder winter style statement.
As summer fades, and autumn knocks on the door, get set to embrace the nip in the air with the best colour trends for men. Add a touch of military green to your wardrobe and easily stand out in a sea of greys and blues this season.

Couture Bridal Gowns: Should You Say Yay or Nay?

The bridal industry is indescribably massive with new brides and bridal parties popping up almost daily. Many brides-to-be will make shopping for the wedding dress their first priority and during this time, scout out a variety of designers, styles, and looks. One of the design terms that is becoming increasingly popular is couture bridal gowns.
What exactly are couture bridal gowns?
"Couture" is a popular term that you have probably heard a dozen times during any reality TV bridal show or during a wedding expo. Many women flock to couture items because the word sounds classy, intriguing, and expensive. This is understandable because couture is actually a French term and is also known as "Haute Couture".
Haute Couture translates to "high sewing" or "high dressmaking".
During the early days in France, Haute Couture was used when people were talking about the much sought after dress houses ran by popular designers, Dior, and many others. The term was never used loosely and in fact, is still regulated to this day, as to which designers can use Haute Couture in their marketing campaigns.
Designers who wished to be known as part of the couture culture had to meet certain criteria set forth by the fashion design industry of France. One of those rules was that the main type of design within a shop had to be of the made-to-order variety. This means that the designer would meet with a client and create the dress of her dreams based upon her likes. Couture dresses are custom designed.
In terms of wedding dresses, you might see "couture" stamped all over a company website or brochure, especially in the United States as the county does not have to follow French criteria for couture clothing. You may even walk into a bridal boutique and see "custom bridal gown" advertisements. Take these marketing campaigns with a grain of salt until you actually speak with the dressmaker.
When the basic framework for a dress has already been designed, this is not considered to be couture but rather "Pret-a-Porter". Many bridal shops will advertise as having couture gowns and indeed will make changes and add enhancements to a basic dress in order to personalize it for you; however, if the dress is not made from scratch right their onsite, this is not truly a couture piece of clothing.
The reason that true couture shops are few and far between is because a designer who sews together every stitch of a wedding gown by themselves needs to be insanely talented. There are many talented dressmakers in the world, but couture wedding gown making is definitely a special niche set aside for the best of the best.
Couture bridal gowns are also wildly expensive and surpass the cost of a pre-made dress by hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dollars. You will also have to factor in any alterations that will need to be made. Almost 100 percent of brides purchasing a bridal gown (even those that are custom made) will require alterations before the big day as body sizes change over the course of a few months or more.
Before you choose to go with a truly couture bridal gown, you should get a quote of the dress and how much any alterations will cost. This will help you maintain within your budget and help you make an educated decision as to whether to choose a couture gown or not.
If you have your heart set on a couture gown, be leery of designers who use this term and are actually interpreting it as a dress that is simply "high-end", as many vendors often do. Meet with the designer and ensure that he or she can indeed make you a custom made dress that is 100 percent stitched, cut, and designed from scratch.

What to Wear When You Want to Feel Cozy

You think about what is in your closet and there seems to be a cavernous gap between nice clothes and hang around, cozy clothes. You opt for the latter because you just need to get on with your errands and feel comfortable.
Comfort!
Comfort is often the number one consideration when getting dressed. And, in case you think I'm going to say comfort is overrated, suck it up and put on whatever you need to look good... Surprise! I'm not. I seek comfort, too!
Depending on where you are going there are degrees of comfort, but there is never a need to be in distress when you get dressed. In today's fashions comfort can be had at every level of refinement.
Whether you are dressing up or dressing down, comfort can reign, but it is not the only consideration so don't stop there!
Right now, let's talk about what happens when you need to run around on a Saturday afternoon or when you get home from work and you are at the park with the kids or going for a walk with your neighbor, getting dinner ready or just being!
Sweatshirts, hoodies, polar fleece... these are what you reach for when the weather gets nippy and you crave cozy and warm. But, most of what is out there (and sometimes most of what is taking up residence in your closet) needs to go.
I am talking about those oversized, shapeless, ugly colored sweatshirts often with logos, sayings or cutesy pictures on them. It is time to move them up and out of your wardrobe. You deserve better!
How about a sweatshirt that has some feminine curves and pretty details in a gorgeous color? Or take the feminine detailing to another level and add a ruffle.
Whether your personal taste runs to soft ruffles, geometric prints or a more traditional hoodie there is something different for every style preference, personality and occasion.
If you really must wear a traditional sweatshirt, here are a few guidelines to help you make it more flattering:
  1. Stay away from the ubiquitous light gray shirt unless you are absolutely positive it's a great color on you. Otherwise, choose a flattering color. Navy can be a nice alternative to black and forest green looks good on many people as well as a lapis blue, to name a few.
  2. It does not have to be two or three sizes too big to be comfortable. Make sure you can't fit two or three of you in the sweatshirt. Buy one that fits you in the shoulders and follows your body shape (not clings, just skims).
  3. Add something to make it more interesting. Whether it's a casual pair of earrings or a pretty scarf, give it some interest with accessories. It doesn't have to be fussy or uncomfortable to look pretty.
One word of caution: Please do not let these sweatshirt alternatives make up the mainstay of your casual wardrobe. These are for those days when you need some extra TLC. There are many, many other options beyond casual sweatshirts that are equally comfy and play a very important role in developing a well-rounded personal wardrobe-not every day is a sweatshirt day and not every occasion is sweatshirt-appropriate.

How to Cut and Sew a Salwar Kameez

Indian salwar kameez are the most popular attire for the women in India. This outfit can vary in designs, cuts, and patterns. The basic design of salwar suits is not so tricky to make at home, if you are adept at cutting and sewing.
To start with cutting and sewing the salwar suits at home, firstly decide the designs and patterns that you wish to make. Now, start with the following instructions of making Indian salwar kameez at home.
How to make the kameez of Indian salwar suits?
To make kameez of your preferred salwar kameez designs, start with the right measurements and their precise cutting. This is the measurement chart that you can follow for the same:
• Length of the kameez from shoulder till the length you desire to keep
• Size around chest
• Waist length from shoulder to the waist
• Sleeve length from shoulder to desired size
• Shoulder to shoulder length
• Neck size as desired
• Arm-hole size
• Slit size from waist to the bottom of kameez
Take seam allowance of 1½ -3 inches in all these measurements.
1. Start with cutting the draft accurately with the required curves and openings as well as seam allowances.
2. Now, take your desired fabric. Fold it in half and attach the pattern paper onto it. Cut the fabric with precision to make the front part of the kameez. Similarly, cut the back portion as well. For back portion, the neck line can be shallower depending upon your style preference. If there are any salwar kameez patterns that you wish to make, take care of them while cutting the fabric. For example, if there is a border print or design, place the fabric in the right manner to avoid any mistake that ruins the entire salwar kameez designs.
3. Using pins to attach the shoulder seams of both these parts together. Keep the fabric on reverse side, i.e. inside out. Stitch the shoulder seams and move to the side seams starting from the ending point of the sleeves up to the hemline. Now, hem the border of the kameez and sleeves as well.
4. Finish the neck opening with seaming it neatly.
5. Finally, you can use any embellished border or lace to enhance the salwar kameez designs and enhance your beauty in a kameez cut and sew by you.
How to cut and sew a salwar?
After making the kameez of salwar suits, you should also learn the making of salwar in a matching colour. To make the salwar, here are the measurements that you can start with:
• Length of salwar from waist to the ankle
• Width of salwar at the point where your thighs and hips are widest
• Size of flare at the ankle flare called as 'Pauncha'
Here again, leave seam allowance for stitching of salwar kameez patterns.
To start with stitching of salwar, firstly, cut a draft of these measurements on a pattern paper.
1. Start with folding the fabric on reverse side and again folding into half. This makes 4 layers of the fabric. Place the pattern paper over this fabric and draw the pattern as per measurements taken.
2. After marking, cut the fabric carefully leaving allowance of half to one inch on all sides. This makes the leg parts of the salwar.
3. Move on to the rest of parts like waist band and ankle bands. Cut them in appropriate size from the remaining fabric. Now, stitch ankle bands to the leg parts and waist band on the top of salwar.
4. It is time to join all the pieces together now. Start with stitching the leg parts of the salwar. Making pleats on it join the waist band. While doing this, ensure joint in the back of salwar meets with the joint in the front.
5. Finish the salwar with over locking of remaining fabric and inserting the drawstring into the waist band.
Your Indian salwar kameez is now ready to wear. You can try any stylish salwar kameez designs into the stitching if you are comfortable doing that.
